Mumm champagne? Check. Eddie McGuire as MC? Check. It was luxury all the way when LK Property Group (and its CEO Larry Kestelman) showcased four of their developments at Peninsula Docklands. Architect Roger Poole of Bates Smart also spoke to the crowd, while guests enjoyed a mix of performance artists and music. Successful? Fifteen properties were purchased on the night, while luxury goods were auctioned off for LK Property Group's charity partner, Kids Under Cover. Still, many were eyeing off the Capitol development in South Yarra - where plans are underway to build a 41-level luxury tower, as part of a $500 million project that will include valet parking and a concierge. Where does one sign up?

Since Melbourne folk are already among the world's most enthusiastic foodies, it wasn't hard to gather a pumped-up crowd for the launch of Urban Kitchen, which is the brand new Emporium Melbourne's lower ground food precinct. With food by 1000 wat, Pho Nom, Botica and Tokyo Pop, among others, let's just say that no one left hungry. But I am hungry writing this....

Oh my goodness, the Marais Melbourne flagship store was a much-anticipated party and a half. First of all, all of Melbourne's fashionistas had long-awaited the opening of this women's store, now located on Bourke Street. And everything there was particularly drool-worthy, not least of all the must-have items, such as Celine sunglasses, Lanvin metallic sneakers, Alexander McQueen rings and such luxury labels as Rick Owens (there's a self-contained store in Marais), Balenciaga, McQ, Helmut Lang and more. And the space! The luscious surroundings are unlike anything Melbourne has seen - at night, it was half opulent store, half nightclub, with a ceiling draped in chain mail. Those who couldn't shop comforted themselves with delicious morsels, all toasting the opening of this lavish shopping destination. Heaven in a handbag.

And lest you, dear reader, think that the professional photographers' shots have gone all wobbly from now on, let me reassure you that the following are two snaps I couldn't resist taking with my iPhone. Now if only I had a Givenchy case for it....
There was delicious pate in these silver macaroons!
A glimpse of the storefront window....

In the middle of winter, it makes sense that you’d dream of getting away to a tropical island where you could sip a freshly squeezed juice amongst the sounds of colourful birds chirping. Mind-blowingly, this will be a reality in the city this winter, with QV Melbourne opening the QV Tropical Retreat, a beach-themed shopping and dining destination. There will also be a range of summer-y events in the pop-up (which lasts until June 27) – tropical terrarium or cocktail classes anyone? Or, just go for the look and feel. Towering palm trees? Check. Tiki-thatched roof? Check. Smell of coconut in the air, as well as a humid temperature? It’s all there. And the opening night party proved it.

Krimper might sound like a dance move to the uninitiated, but it's actually a new warehouse space tucked away in the city, that was showcased in all its hot-pink-and-gold glory when Larger than Life launched it as its newest event space. Once the Guildford Art Gallery, it was a jazz bar and is now a cafe by day, events spot at night. Fluro deer heads? Check. Exposed brick walls? Check. But the crowd were wowed by Bright Young Things' delicious menu, Lux Bite's sweet morsels (by Masterchef's Bernard Chu) and decorations which included Damselfly's quirky candles, complete with slogans such as "Unicorns Are Awesome/ I Am Awesome/ Therefore I Am A Unicorn." In the end, everyone realised this: it's a damn fine place for a party.
