Royal Botanic Runway

The setting: the incredible Royal Botanic Gardens, at the colourful fusion of plants that makes up Guilfoyle's Volcano. The occasion: a runway show with some of Australia's best designers - Martin Grant (now based in Paris), Aurelio Costarella, Akira Isogawa, Collette Dinnigan - for The Royal Botanic Runway. The purpose: to raise funds for the final stage of the gardens' Melbourne Water Strategy Project. The result: an utterly breathtaking burst of fabrics, colours, talent and an enthusiastic audience, some of whom had paid more than the $28 entry ticket - a premium donor box was $1000 per person, which included Champagne Pommery on arrival, premium seating at the Volcano and a black tie dinner at the Terrace Restaurant with Shannon Bennett. There to watch, in an array of seats, were Natalie Bloom, designer Yeojin Bae and Real Housewives of Melbourne Andrea Moss and Gina Liano, who seemed to have buried the hatchet - if the smiling photos at The Botanical's after party were any indication.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

As school holidays wind to a close, what's left to do? For this week (through until February 1), you can catch The Young Australian Broadway Chorus' production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The Andrew Lloyd Weber musical relies on  cast and costume (rather than set) to pack a punch, but it's a hefty punch, with David Duketis (as Joseph) and Vivienne Awosoga (as the narrator) providing stand-out performances. It's a rocking good time, and where else can you see Pharoah re-envisioned as Elvis? At The Beckett Theatre's The Malthouse, ph: 9685 5111 (www.malthousetheatre.com.au) Continues at the Adelaide Fringe Festival Tour from March 11-15 at the Odeon Theatre.

Brown Brothers' Summer of Prosecco

Often, a hard-to-get-to hotspot in an obscure location is just the key to getting the social set buzzing. The Richmond Place destination, tucked behind a train station, proved to be a hit when Brown Brothers opened their pop-up Summer of Prosecco pop-up bar with a VIP party. Be quick: it's only open until Jan 25, and although VIP tickets have sold out, bar-hoppers are still welcome. You'll think you're on the beach, not least of all because of the mass of sand which was brought in for the occasion. Party-goers weren't warned on opening night, so the wobbly heels weren't from the prosecco alone. For those not willing to make sartorial risks, a thong bar provided chic white flip-flops - complete with the Brown Brothers signature - for the night. Experience it for yourself by heading here for the scoop.

Peroni marquee at the Portsea Polo

The Jeep Portsea Polo is always a highlight in the Melbourne social calendar, but seems to be getting even better every year. Look, if you will, to the Peroni Nastro Azzurro VIP Marquee. Last year Lara Bingle was there, but this year's La Dolce Vita saw an equally glam crowd flock to the luxe tent of the event's official beer partner and sponsor. Were they drawn by the Italian-style decor, the food of chef Adam D'Sylva (Tonka, Coda) or the dazzling crowd with whom they could rub shoulders? No matter: the day rocked.

Melbourne actress Bella Heathcoate, best known for her starring role opposite Johnny Depp in the Tim Burton movie Dark Shadows, has several other films in the works.
